Next year, Efteling will be celebrating its 65th anniversary, even though it seems like no time at all since the 60th!  For this occasion, they are asking guests to submit their memories of their trips to the park.

Click here to submit your memory.

Memories will be used in publications such as posters and, I believe, a 65th anniversary book commemorating this milestone.  It is also very likely that the Efteling Museum will hold a 65th anniversary exhibition as they did during the 60th year.

So, get cracking!  Send your memories to Efteling and maybe one of us UK fans will get something published by the park 😉

Efteling News Roundup

Loads of Efteling news!  Well, a few things…

First and most importantly it’s the words we all hate to hear…’Efteling have raised their ticket prices’.  There’s not too much to worry about though, as the tickets have only been hiked by 50¢, making basic admission now €36.50 or €34.50 when bought online.  See prices for other tickets below.

Secondly is news on something that is a little surprising, and that is that Efteling are giving a nod to foreign visitors by including ‘Typically Dutch’ parts of the park on their park map.  For instance, food in the wall has been given a Typically Dutch label, being marked on the map with a little Dutch girl (who looks like she escaped from Carnaval Festival).  This label has also been given to Anton Pieck Square, the Oliebollen cart at the main entrance, De Soete Inval and the Kinderspoor.  It may seem like a strange move, since you’d probably assume that these things are ‘Typically Dutch’ anyway when visiting from another country, but now Efteling are making sure that you know!  This looks like another step in catering towards visitors from outside of the Netherlands, and that of course, we welcome!

There is also some sort of confusing news about the Water Organ which is located in the Carousel building.  The organ has stood unused for many years, with the room being used as a TV studio a couple of years ago but otherwise standing empty.  A few days ago, some activity from Efteling on Twitter indicated that the organ will not be opening, possibly ever again, although they then said that no decision had been made about the matter.  Confusing!  It has been said that Aquanura is basically a bigger and better replacement for the organ, which still retains a lot of the charm that Efteling is famous for.

What will be will be!  Please check us out on Facebook and Twitter @EftelingUK and tell your friends about us!

Also known as ‘Pirate Gijs’, ‘Captain Gijs’ and ‘Buccaneer Captain’, you may remember that good old Buccaneer Gijs (or whatever you want to call him today!) was turfed out of his home recently due to Pinokkio moving into his place in the fairy tale forest.  For months we have wondered, ‘where will Buccaneer Gijs be moved to?!’, and today, we needn’t wonder any more!  Kapitein Gijs will be moved to just outside the Flying Dutchman, and will be surrounded by new decorations, which he clearly deserves, after standing there for so long pointing at his cannon (since 1973!).  He fits very well into this nautical location, probably a lot better than where he was situated before, and the artwork showing his new crib looks even better than ever!

The Captain is Moving House

It has appeared for years that nobody is 100% sure who or what (tale) this little Captain is supposed to represent, however, he diligently stands there year after year, pointing the way to dispose of your trash.  He is indeed, a helpful captain, and is now going to put himself to good use elsewhere, and I’m sure he’s glad of the change of scene after 43 years!

He’s moving up in the world, onto better things!
