Symbolica Now Requires a Boarding Pass

Starting, I believe, this weekend, Efteling are testing a new system at their busiest attraction, and that is boarding passes.  You’ll need a boarding pass to ride Symbolica, up until 4pm, then you can queue as normal.  It is promised on one of the flyers they’ve been handing out, that having a pass means you will wait no longer than 15 minutes to ride.  That’s pretty cool considering that the wait for this attraction is horrendously long most of the time.  However, a lot of people on Facebook have commented that this system is too regimented, and means that instead of relaxing in the park, you have to be checking your watch all the time to see when your pass time rolls around.  You can get a pass from machines at Symbolica, or on the Efteling app.

I understand that, but I’m also one of the folks who wouldn’t stand 90 minutes or more to experience this attraction!  Speaking of which, it seems that the single rider line is still functioning without a boarding pass ( I recommend single rider if you don’t mind sitting with a bunch of strangers!).

These passes are just being trialled for now, but they could be proved to be very helpful, as nobody likes wasting precious Efteling time standing in an excessively long line!  The only negative outcome here would be if Efteling decide to do this with other attractions in the park, although no other attraction has a line quite as long as this one at the moment!

We’ll see how it goes!

July 1st is here! Happy Symbolica day! We’ve waited a long time for this day, through the Hartenhof years and through the building of Symbolica, the day is finally here.

This is Efteling’s first trackless ride, situated in the park’s ‘brink’ at the end of Pardoes Promenade next to Polle’s Keuken pancake restaurant, which shares the same theme as Symbolica. Here’s what Efteling have to say about it:

Come and visit the new indoor family attraction Symbolica. An enchanting palace in which nothing is what it seems. Enjoy an audience with the King together. Magic Jester Pardoes will ensure that every visit is surprising and enchanting. Let yourself be led along the secret corridors through into magical rooms and be amazed time after time.
Many of you may remember that Pardoes was the park’s icon for a number of years, but more recently we haven’t seen as much of him. Now, he is immortalised in this new attraction along with Princess Pardijn.

Riders will be taken on one of three different routes through the palace; Heroes Tour, Treasures Tour or the Music Tour. Each tour has already been posted on YouTube, so if you can’t wait to visit Symbolica, then see the video below of the Treasures Tour!

A new Efteling advert has also been created to include the new €35million attraction:

We can’t wait to ride it!

Happy Symbolica Day!

efteling 65 jaar, eftelinguk, eftelwesley, het loonsche land, Symbolica

There has been a lot going on in the world of Efteling lately…

On May 31st, Efteling celebrated its 65th birthday; and with that came the opening of a new exhibition in the Efteling Museum: 65 years of Efteling.  Included in the exhibition is a very cool interactive map of the park, as can be seen in the videos below:

As part of the park’s 65th birthday celebrations, new accommodation, Loonsche Land opened on May 31st and will soon be joined by the park’s newest attraction, Symbolica, which opens in July.

Take a look below to see how Symbolica is coming along.  You get a great view of the roof garden from Pagode, as you can see all of those 800 solar panels!  Eftelwesley’s video also shows us the area around the attraction, including the queue.

Here’s a brief look at Loonsche Land from my friend Eftelwesley…There are loads more of his videos of the new resort at his site here

First impressions of the new vacation park are that it looks a lot like Bosrijk, but it just isn’t!  It does look beautiful though, and I’m sure that many of us Efteling nerds will be planning ‘research trips’ in the near future.

In other news, Pandadroom is finally getting a new film, hurray!  So far we know that the new film will be based around Klaas Vaak (The Sandman, or as Google translate likes to call him, the Sand Cauliflower), but little information is known at this time.  Let us just hope that the restaurant Octopus remains mostly unchanged, as it is such a relaxing place to chill out.

There is also a rumour that Efteling, in conjunction with Europa Park, are looking into creating a flight simulator ride similar to that of Soarin’ in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.  We look forward to that, if it ever comes into being!

And last but not least, gefeliciteerd to Eftelwesley on his 10,000 subscribers!  Thank you for sharing your Efteling videos with us!

As the opening of Efteling’s newest attraction grows closer, the park ramp up their marketing, and it’s totally cool…

E-mails were delivered today to Efteling fans for a chance to win one of several prizes:

200x 6 Efteling tickets for June 30 include sneak preview Symbolica.
• 12x accommodation for 5 people in the Efteling Loonsche Country Hotel, including unlimited access to the Efteling.
OJ Punctuel, Lackey of His Majesty King Pardulfus, is sending out invites to the palace, and once you enter the competition you will receive a lovely little personalised video from him (some are subtitled in English).

The newest episode of The Making of Symbolica has also just been uploaded to Efteling’s YouTube channel.  We’re getting more and more excited to ride!

Happy New Year!

The year has finally arrived; 2017 is the year that Efteling will open its newest attraction: Symbolica!

Read past articles on Symbolica here and here.

Later this year, the park will welcome a brand new trackless dark ride, and we’re all very excited about it!  Here’s a little on the story of Symbolica (with English subtitles):

A couple of days ago Efteling announced that their new ride, Symbolica, will be opening in Summer 2017.  On that day, construction had already started!  The area known as ‘The Brink’ (that big space outside of Polle’s Keuken) is being dug up, ready for work to begin on the park’s newest attraction.

Concept art for Symbolica gives a better idea of how the attraction will look in the space.

Efteling fans have been waiting for this ride for a long time now, since the days when it was still known as ‘Hartenhof‘.  Now however, looking at the concept art and knowing that the ride will be trackless, we are more excited than ever to see this new attraction finally taking shape!  Summer 2017 feels like a very long time to wait, however there’s no doubt that the wait will be worth it!  No pressure Efteling 😉

This video by EftelwesleyHD shows the beginnings of the clearing of the area for Symbolica:

With thanks to EftelWesley.

Hartenhof Resurfaces as ‘Symbolica’

SymbolicaCast your minds back to 2010, when you most likely first heard of ‘Hartenhof’.  Hartenhof was to be Efteling’s new attraction back in 2012 for the 60th anniversary of the park.  The ride was to be based on the world of Pardoes, who used to be the park’s mascot, and would have been themed similarly to Polle’s Keuken (which thankfully Efteling decided to build!).

When construction never began, it became clear that the attraction wouldn’t be opening in time for the Jubilee year, and eventually the ride got delayed until 2013.  Still, nothing appeared to take shape, until now!

Now, the new ride has had a name change to ‘Symbolica’; apparently this is more ‘international visitor-friendly’.  The most interesting feature of Symbolica is that it is reported to be trackless.  Symbolica2The ride system will be supplied by ETF Ride Systems, who are responsible for Disney’s Toy Story Midway Mania attraction, as well as rides in Phantasialand and Walibi Belgium, and they also designed the system on which Efteling’s ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ operates.  For those of you who have been to Disneyland Paris recently, you may have experienced Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy, which also uses trackless technology.  We recently visited the attraction, and as our first trackless experience, it was a very smooth ride, and very futuristic in a strange way!

A trackless ride system would certainly put Efteling’s Symbolica up there with the other trackless attractions around the world, and with the ride costing tens of millions of Euros (more than any other Efteling attraction), we can surely expect something absolutely amazing when the attraction arrives by 2020.
