Once upon a time in Summer 2012, Efteling UK visited Efteling, and bought a pin ‘book’, a small thing, made out of cardboard, to celebrate 60 years of Efteling.  The first pin, the Witch, came with the book; Mr Long Neck and the Goose Girl were also bought in the Loetiek during the visit.  After arriving home, Efteling UK saw that the ‘Little Message’ pin had become available on the Efteling Web Shop, so it was purchased and put in the book with the rest of the pin set.  Some time went by, and the Snow White pin appeared on the Web Shop, along with the Holle Bolle Gijs pin.  Snow White was put into the basket, but Holle Bolle Gijs was sold out!  So then Efteling UK was faced with this:DSCF1167We had never planned on collecting them all in the first place, but being only 1 pin short was a little frustrating!  We did contact the Efteling Web Shop and they said they wouldn’t be getting any more of the pins online.  Even more annoyingly, this pin had sold out in about 3 days after being released!  We still aren’t too sure why this one was so popular…So, what to do?  To Google!  And through the wonders of the internet, we came across a little site called Pinparade.nl.  We located the stray pin on their site and sent them an e-mail, asking for help getting hold of the pin.

DSCF1166

We were replied to by a very nice person called Pim, who helped us out a great deal in locating said pin.  After many an e-mail back and forth, the pin was sent, and today, it arrived!  Forget Christmas presents, this is what we’ve been waiting for!  DSCF1168

Here it is, the illusive Holle Bolle Gijs pin!  We are easily pleased here at Efteling UK 🙂

So now, we have a full set of the 60 year pins.

DSCF1169We think they look great, and would like to say thank you to Pim and Ronald at Pin Parade!

Today, Efteling put their new CD onto the Efteling web shop, and it is already in low stocks it seems!  It is a 2 disc set, including songs from previous CDs, but now including music from George and the Dragon, Raveleijn, The Emperor’s New Clothes and the Sandman at Bosrijk.  On a side note, if you go to the CD on the web shop, and have Google chrome translate the page into English, you may notice that track 8 on CD 2 is called ‘Swan Adhesive’…This gave us a good laugh.

We love the box too, simple yet effective!  Of course, we have ordered one for research purposes  ( 😉 ) and we shall let you know how it is when it arrives!

Aquanura has won a THEA (Themed Entertainment Association) award for Aquanura (outstanding achievement).  The ceremony will take place in April 2013 at the Disneyland Resort.  Bart de Boer tweeted the news earlier today.  He also mentioned that the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) has awarded Efteling a Brass Ring award in the category of Food and Beverage for Polle’s Kitchen.

One of Efteling’s older THEA awards.

Well done Efteling!

Product Review: Red Riding Hood Bathrobe

This is a short review of the adult Red Riding Hood Bathrobe from the Efteling Web Shop.  Let me start by saying that this is more of a dressing gown than a bathrobe, because the material wouldn’t really absorb much water; it is very soft and fluffy, though.

You can get children’s robes and adults robes, they are exactly the same.  There is also a Dragon robe available.  They come in a strong zipped plastic bag with handles, which is cute.  When ours arrived, some of the white frill material from around the hood was hanging off, but it was nothing a couple of stitches couldn’t fix.  During wearing the robe I have also noticed that the blue sash is coming away a bit at the edges.

On the up side, however, it is very warm, and the hood is big.  Like, you could probably fit 2 heads in there, if you had 2 heads…It also has a little loop in the neck so that you can hang it up.  It is longer than it looks in the photo that is on the site, and comes almost to knee-length on a person of average height.

All in all, not too bad for €24.99.

We give it 3 Pardoes!

We found a couple when we were having a clear-out.

We love the old-school Carnaval Festival mug, complete with Pardoes!  The Droomvlucht one is also pretty cool; if only the Droomvlucht store still sold this kind of thing!  However, that is a rant for another day!

The Emperor’s New Clothes/De Nieuwe Kleren van de Keizer Previews!

De Nieuwe Kleren van de Keizer, efteling, eftelinguk, preview, sprookjesbos, the emperor's new clothes

If you have been on YouTube today, you may well have seen the many videos springing up of the preview of The Emperor’s New Clothes in Efteling.  Here it is if you would like to watch it.  Credit to John van Hulsen for the video:

Our Thoughts:

We’ve been waiting for this new fairytale for quite a while now, and it doesn’t disappoint!  We absolutely love the ‘bobbing’ action of the characters, the shadow segments, and the way the fountain rises up in front of the Emperor to hide his unmentionables!  This is definitely Efteling humour at its finest.

To compare it to another fairytale that is ‘performed’ on an outdoor façade, The Flying Fakir, it is very different in style, which is particularly noticeable with the characters; however it still somehow manages to slot in perfectly to the fairytale forest.  Modern technology gives this tale movement that differs a great deal from the simple mouth-moving of Rumpelstiltskin, or the arm moving of Little Red Riding Hood.  In a good move, Efteling have decided to use static figures, and rely solely on this ‘bobbing’, walking motion instead of making different body-parts on the figures move to tell the story.  Had they used figures that  ‘bobbed’ and moved individual limbs, we can’t imagine that it would have looked quite so ‘Efteling’.  Remember, less is more!

We can’t wait to visit this one in person; you can find it between The Little Match Girl and Sprookjesboom.  Watch the video, even if it is just for that wonderful ‘bobbing’ action!
