Buses to Efteling!

Someone asked me today about getting a bus to Efteling. The 137 bus apparently disappeared a while ago, and now the 136 doesn’t seem to be there anymore. One of the biggest nightmares we have when trying to update the site, is the information on transport. It is usually like finding a needle in a haystack, and when we do find it, it makes no sense! So, if you have any information on the bus services, please do let us know!

We found this on the Veolia site, but the information doesn’t include what time the buses stop running and such.

To summarize, always check before you travel! Also, the number 300 bus from Tilburg seems to be the safest option at the moment.

Efteling Bus Stop Gets a Makeover

The small bus station at the entrance to Efteling is getting a facelift. It is not yet known what it will look like from a creative perspective, but there are plans available for how it will be laid out. The buses will also be running to this station even when Efteling is closed, which is nice for nearby residents in Loon op Zand. The service is run by Veolia, who are apparently pleased with the new plans.

Shampoo Review!

Hey, that rhymes! Sorta…

So we bought some shampoo from Efteling’s web shop. It was so good, we’ve actually bought it more than once! Last time, we even bought some shower gel too. You can get 2 shampoos, and 2 showers gels, which seem to be tailored to both boys and girls. For the boys, Dragon shampoo and Wolf shower gel; for the girls, Cinderella shampoo and Red Riding Hood shower gel. They smell great, are free from too many nasty ingredients, and are priced nicely at 2.50.

The Cinderella shampoo smells a lot like a berry yogurt and the Dragon one smells a little like apples. We aren’t sure of the connection between the smells and the characters, but presumably nobody would come near you if you smelt like fire instead of apples!

We give these products 5 Pardoes!

Dragon Cake/Drakens Taart

A couple of years ago, I was wandering around one of those discount supermarket type of places, and out of the corner of my eye, I could swear that I saw the Efteling logo. Was I having withdrawal symptoms? Was all that studying at University driving me crazy? Well, yes to all of the above, but I was right! There it was in the freezer aisle, glistening like a jewel in a frog king’s crown, the Dragon Tart.

To the majority of us in this country, it could best be described as an Arctic roll. Green sponge cake wrapped around pink ice cream, with a swirl of jam (or dragon blood, if you’d like to think about it like that) in the centre. The thing even had scales printed on the sponge! That wasn’t all. There was a little bag containing those little pieces of candy that crackle when you put them in your mouth, and those were to be sprinkled on top of the cake.

And was that all?

No!

Something that was almost as good as the cake, free stickers!

So how was it? It was pretty tasty. The fact that it was Efteling-related probably made it more tasty, and the crackling stuff just made it even better! Heck, even the box looked good!

The cakes were made by Maître Paul, who make frozen cakes and pastries.

If they were still around, we’d tell you all to buy one. Or maybe you could make your own?!

Attention to Detail: The Flying Dutchman

Sometimes, you need to open your eyes a little more and take everything in. It was only on our last trip that we noticed that the lamps in the Flying Dutchman had little ships’ wheels on them. A nice touch!

Pizza at Bosrijk

Whilst staying at Bosrijk, the time may come when you feel the need to call for a pizza. Of course, you can go and pick one up from the main building, however if your cottage/apartment is a little further out, you may want to have one delivered.

On our last visit, in the name of research, (of course) we ordered a pizza for delivery. The number is located in your accommodation, along with a menu. Once you have ordered your pizza, wait a little while, and a man on a bike will turn up at your door. Your pizza has arrived!

Now for the verdict. We had been meaning to order on of these for a while, because we’d seen people wandering around with pizzas and got a little bit jealous! We ordered some sort of chicken pizza, and it arrived fairly quickly. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as we’d hoped. It was sort of hard on the base and didn’t have a lot of flavour. Of course, all pizzas are different, so I would still encourage people to try one, even just for the novelty of it turning up on a bike

I saw this Efteling compilation on YouTube and had to share it, it is pretty much Efteling in a nutshell. Of course, not everything is here, but most of it is!

Mini Langnek in Madurodam

For those of you who are not familiar with Madurodam, it is a very popular tourist attraction located in Scheveningen, the Hague. It opened only a couple of months after Efteling in 1952, and is home to miniature versions of famous Dutch buildings and locations. Of course, such a project would not be complete without a representation of Efteling, and since 2002, Langnek and Holle Bolle Gijs have been represented at Madurodam, with Langnek standing at 30cm tall.

But, we listened to this a few times and it really grew on us!

Try and make it to the end; it’s a bit slow at getting started, but once it kicks in, it’s all good fun!
